Moscow Domodedovo to introduce facial recognition to the airport security system

17 April, 2018. Domodedovo, Moscow region. Moscow Domodedovo Airport has completed the testing of the automatic facial recognition system. According to the results, the system scored 90% accuracy.

The airport installed the system at one of the entries. Domodedovo created a separate database with its employee’s photos for a testing period. The software used video cameras to analyze the information from the actual passenger traffic as well as archives and identify faces from the database.

Both airport security services and law enforcement agencies are expected to employ the recently installed facial recognition system.

“The initiative aims at the technological development of the airport security system. We plan on using expertise and competencies provided by our partners seeking to advance facial recognition technology in the Russian market. We will select a supplier through a competitive bidding process”, said Denis Yarygin, the managing director at Domodedovo IT Services, a single provider of IT services for the airport.
